With the hurricane on its way, the 44th IAC Chapter 23 Aerobatic Contest held on November 1-3, 2001 in Sebring Florida had it's opportunities in the making. A threat of weather conditions becoming increasing worse rather than better presented a challenge for all pilots and contest officials. With the winds blowing at 20 mph and intermittent rain, Roy Myers, Contest Director remained calm. By Saturday, the challenge was on in an attempt to get all flights in for all categories. Under the direction of Roy and the teamwork of experienced Chief Judges - Gary Soud, Steve Hill and Hector Ramirez and Starter Willie Williamson, all pilots were able to get all flights in. We were honored to have sponsor Gerd Muehlbauer of MT Propeller in Germany compete in Hubie Tolson's SU-26. We were also honored to have member and welcome member, Clint McHenry participate as line judge for the Advanced and 4-minute Unlimited Freestyle. Clint was presented the "John Lillberg and French Connection Memorial" award at the banquet. This award was presented in honor of Clint’s selfless devotion to aerobatics. Each year, this award will be presented to the new winner by the previous year’s winner. This year the T-Shirts represented a rememberance of John Lillberg with his Extra 300 displayed on the shirt. Also unique to the Sebring Contest is the "Bozo Award Club". Each year the club invites another into the group. This year Joe Haycraft Received this special invitation for his "Bozo" activities. |
