The Contest Jury for the US Nationals has been finalized. The Jury will be chaired by veteran IAC member and pilot Bob Meyer of Tehachapi, California. Bob has been an active judge and competitor for many years and brings experience, judgement, and diplomatic skills to the assignment. The Jury at Nationals is very active throughout the contest, unlike at most regional competitions, as it is charged with oversight of the key operational areas of the contest as well as administering the Unknowns, which in Advanced and Unlimited categories are formulated on site. Unlimited also flies a "Free Unknown" in the team selection flights that will take place at the North Texas Regional Airport (KGYI) in Sherman/Denison, Texas. The contest begins on Sunday, September 21 and ends the following Friday.
Other Jury members include Mark Matticola, Craig Gifford, Bill Gordon, Steve Johnson, and MIke Heuer. Each bring varying backgrounds and viewpoints to the group.
Another unique feature to Nationals is that Unlimited pilots vote on the judges who will work their category. The voting is open to any pilot who has pre-registered for team selection and paid their entry fees. Volunteer Coordinator Ellyn Robinson is in charge of assembling the various judging teams for all categories. The voting was completed a few days ago.
This year's Unlimited Judges will be Steve Johnson, Lynn Stoltenberg, Bill Denton, Doug Sowder, Marty Flournoy, Tom Adams, and Fred Weaver. They will ultimately choose the 2015 US Unlimited Aerobatic Team which will compete in France in August 2015. Our thanks to all of them for stepping up to the plate and taking on this heavy responsibility and workload.
