US Nationals Update

The United States National Aerobatic Championships begins in less than three weeks and Contest Director Gray Brandt and Assistant Contest Director Casey Erickson will be putting the finishing touches to the event in the remaining days ahead.

The contest will take place from 20-27 September 2014 at the North Texas Regional Airport (KGYI) in Sherman/Denison, Texas.  The event has been held at this airport almost continuously since 1972.  As always, National Champions will be named as well as a US Aerobatic Team in Unlimited category.  The Team will compete at the 28th FAI World Aerobatic Championships in Châteauroux, France in August 2015.

Pilots who plan to compete and volunteers who would like to help should visit https://nationals.iac.org to pre-register.  Volunteers can sign up for specific assignments and this helps the Volunteer Coordinator, Ellyn Robinson, do her job in staffing the event well before each category begins flying.

There is a lot of information on the Nationals website and an update on the practice box situation has just been posted.  The Aerobatic Practice Area (APA) at North Texas Regional Airport (KGYI) has expired.  A temporary practice box has been applied for but it is doubtful the waiver will be granted in time for those of you who come into KGYI early for practice.  However, our friends at Chapter 24 are working on it.  If you do plan to come and would like an update, call Curt Richmond at 1 (972) 948-9810 for the latest information.

The US Nationals' waivered box will take effect on Saturday, September 20th and will extend through the following Saturday for the competition.  That waiver has been received and is in place.  Practice slots will be available on that first Saturday and under the supervision of boxmaster Gary DeBaun and Assistant Contest Director Casey Erickson.  Gary will run the show.

See you soon at Nationals!
