Why Multiple Types?
Drupal allows the site administrator (webmaster) to define different types of content, and configure them to behave differently. It's important to choose the right content type when adding material to the site.
Article
Our articles are comparable to newspaper or magazine articles, mostly tutorial or narrative in nature. If in doubt, use an Article rather than a Basic Page.
The five newest titles appear on the front page in a sidebar block entitled Recent Articles.
By default, articles can only be seen by current members. (See Access Control for more information.)
Basic page
Basic pages operate just like Articles, except the most recent titles don't appear on the front page.
Use these for "boilerplate" content, such as an 'About us' page.
By default, anyone can see a basic page.
Book page
For subject matter that's too long for a standard web page (e.g., Intro to Aresti), you can break the text into Book pages. Books have a built-in hierarchical navigation that allow you to organize material into chapters, and sub-chapters if desired.
By default, anyone can see a book page.
Contest
Each node is a sanctioned IAC contest. See: https://www.iac.org/webmasters-guide/content-features/contest-lifecycle
Contest Pre-Registration
Each node is one member registering for one event.
Event (not currently used)
Each Event is an item on the IAC calendar.
All events must have a start date, and may have an end date. For example, the annual deadline for rule change proposals would not need an end date, whereas a webinar would.
All events have a type, which may be Contest, Judges School, Webinar, or Other. Select the type that's the most appropriate for your event.
By default, anyone can see an event.
Note: It is easy to add new event types, so let me know if you need one.
Flight School
Each node is a flight school listing. See: https://www.iac.org/aerobatic-flight-schools
Judges School
Each node is a judges' school session. See: https://www.iac.org/judges-school-calendar
Legacy Page
These pages were imported from the old www.iac.org and members.iac.org sites, and edited to conform to the new site's standards. The site has been configured to prevent the addition of any new legacy pages.
By default, only members can see a Legacy Page.
Magazine
A PDF copy of Sport Aerobatics magazine.
By default, a Magazine is only accessible to current members. However two years after publication (this interval is subject to change), the system automatically changes the Magazine's permissions to allow access by anyone.
Meeting Docs
Documents from IAC Board meetings and the like. See: https://www.iac.org/meeting-docs
News Item
These should be used for brief announcements, typically the province of the Executive Director.
The six most recent News Items are prominently displayed on the front page. Every News Item also propagates automatically to the News Archive page.
News items are accessible to anyone.
Sequence
Each node is one aerobatic sequence. See: https://www.iac.org/sequences
Vendor Info
These euphamistically named nodes are actually advertisements, which are displayed in accordance with the IAC Advertising Guidelines.
Each Vendor Info node consists of an image to be displayed, a hyperlink that the user will be sent to if they click on the image, and the start/end dates of the ad.
Once entered, ads are automatically selected and displayed every time the user views a page on our site. For obvious reasons, ads can be viewed by anyone.
Video
Each node is one video file, typically hosted on Amazon S3. See: https://www.iac.org/nationals-videos/ (Note: The aforementioned link is to Nationals Videos, but there's no reason we couldn't use this node type to index other videos as well.)
