Each year, the membership of the International Aerobatic Club nominates outstanding volunteers to be recognized for their contributions to the sport of aerobatics. The award winners are selected by a secret ballot of the IAC Board of Directors. In typical years the award recipients were recognized at the IAC Annual Member Meeting at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. If the recipient is not present at AirVenture, the awards will be presented to the recipients at the U.S. National Aerobatic Championships in Salina, Kansas.

Voting for the 2023 IAC elections closed at approximately 6:00p.m. CDT July 25, 2023.  A total of 447 ballots were cast. We thank everyone who took the time to vote for the leadership of the IAC. The officers begin their term today, July 28,2023.

Contest report from the U.S. Advanced Aerobatic Glider Team - the first official contest day, July 26, is in the books for the World Advanced Glider Aerobatic Championships in Torun, Poland.

The opening ceremonies were last night (July 25), which were attended by all contest competitors, FAI & contest officials, and local leaders.

All team members were able to complete their free/known programs. Results were mixed but overall, very positive. Patience was the name of the game today as low clouds were a problem in the box throughout the day.

On behalf of our present and past US Advanced Aerobatic Teams, Team 23 expresses our profound sadness at the passing of Nikolay Timofeev.  Nik was a great competitor, team member, judge and coach. Though he was involved in many aspects of our sport, he holds a special place in the hearts of all the Advanced competitors and teams he worked with over the years.  We extend our heartfelt sympathy to all that will mourn his loss.

Extra Aircraft’s founder and CEO, Walter Extra, announced the newest addition to their model lineup, the 330SX.  This single seat, steel fuselage, and carbon fiber wing/empennage aerobatic monoplane is the company’s evolution of the proven eight-time world championship winning 330SC.  The 330SX first flew on June 06, 2023, and is currently in flight testing with deliveries expected to start at the beginning of Q3 2024.

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023 includes a full roster of forums in the IAC’s Vicki Cruse Educational Pavilion at the IAC Aerobatic Center. The forums are scheduled daily from Tuesday, July 25, through Friday, July 28, 2023, and run for approximately one hour and 15 minutes each.

A fantastic lineup of aerobatic and unusual attitude forums throughout the week are planned. Everything from spins to the IAC Collegiate Program or exploring flying aerobatics in your homebuilt and recreational aerobatics will be covered.
